More than 2.25 billion cups of coffee are drunk every day throughout the world, which is a lot of coffee beans!
It's therefore only fitting that there should be a special International Coffee Day in honour of this popular beverage.
This year, International Coffee Day is being held on September 29, with companies around the world raising a cup to flavoursome coffee beans. Some coffee companies or cafes may be offering special deals, and you can also get greeting cards in celebration of the occasion.
International Coffee Day marks the long history of this fine drink, which is thought to have been discovered in Ethiopia in the ninth century. It became popular in Arab countries in the 15th century before being exported across Asia, Europe and the Americas.
The event also looks at people who cultivate the coffee plants around the world, with about 25 million small producers relying on coffee to make their living. No wonder it is such an important commodity and is a major agricultural export.
With so much of the world reliant on coffee in one way or another, an International Coffee Day seems a fitting tribute to them all.
So why not use this special day to enjoy a cup of your favourite coffee in your favourite cup, at home or with friends in a cafe?
With so many different types of coffee to choose from, such as a rich dark espresso or creamy cappuccino, you can enjoy the popular beverage at any time of the day or night.
Going out for a coffee with friends or families is a lovely way to spend an afternoon, while coffee is also the perfect accompaniment for a meeting at work or to close a business lunch.
Now, with the availability of coffee machines, capsules and pods, as well as coffee beans, it is just as quick and simple to enjoy a coffee at home or work as good as those you will find served by top baristas in the coffee shops.
So whatever you are celebrating, why not do it over a lovely cup of coffee? You could even set up an International Coffee Day celebration at your place of work or in your local community.
